Master of Business

The NBS Master of Business has been designed for students who are at the begining of their carrers and who already hold the equivalent of an undergraduate honours degree in any discipline.

The over aim of the programme is to enable such graduates to develop their career options by combining the specialist knowledge of their undergraduate degree with a general business and management postgraduate qualification. Graduates from the programme will be able to make an immediate contribution in a variety of roles within business organisations and will have the potential to become creative and successful managers.

One unique feature of this masters is that it offers students the ability to convert to an MBA once they have gained sufficient management experience.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • Recognised First Degree
  • English Language Requirements:
    For students whose first language is not English, either (a) evidence of having reached at least the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 / TOEFL 575 or (b) the language of instruction during the final year of their first degree was English.
STRUCTURE

12 months (Full Time) / 18 months - 20 months (Part Time)

The Master of Business consists of a core modules plus optional subjects and a dissertation worth a further 120 credits.

Students will have the option of taking the Master of Business with International Management which is considered to be the general pathway or they can opt for a mode specialised pathway.

A special feature of this masters is the opportunity to top-up to an MBA.

Objectives
The programmes will give all graduates a through introduction to essential management concepts, tools, functions and disciplines. Learning will be taken to the point where graduates are able to critically evaluate the application of these disciplines.

SUBJECTS & UNIT SYNOPSIS

CORE MODULES

  1. Analysing & Developing Self
    • To develop students’ ability to recognise the need for and to enter in to the process of personal and professional development.

  2. Managing for Competitive Advantage
    • Introduces students to the main business functions - Finance, Marketing, HRM and operations, and develops greater understanding of concepts, theories and techniques.

  3. Strategy & Challenges
    • Develop understanding of the nature of strategic management and the challenges facing business in the 21st century.

  4. Business Information Systems & Data Analysis
    • Collection, organisation, analysis and presentation of business data from various primary and secondary sources. Analytical techniques supported by relevant IT applications will be presented, providing the students with a good theoretical base and practical experience of handling business data.

  5. Analysing Organisations & People
    • Focuses on organisational behaviour analysis and HR approaches to managing people in organisations.

  6. Current Issues
    • Provides an opportunity for students to review and evaluate current issues arising from the dynamic nature of the business environment.

  7. Leading Strategic Change
    • Develop an understanding of the nature of strategic change and the issues associated with leading strategic change including achieving change across organisational boundaries.
MOB(International Management)
  1. Global & Transnational Strategy
    • Develops an understanding of the nature and strategic significance of globalisation and transnational strategies
  2. International Marketing Management
    • Provides an overview of Marketing issues set in an international context. Consideration is given to a range of approaches to overseas marketing, ranging from minimal involvement by way of using an agent or other third party, to full marketing support and overseas manufacturing.
  3. International HRM
    • Explores the role of strategic international Human Resource Management in making multi-national organisations competitive.
